Data Sharing, Preservation, and Licensing

Course Objectives

This course introduces a range of issues relating to the long term preservation, licensing and sharing of data with other researchers. After completing this course, participants will be able to:

• Understand the benefits and challenges associated with sharing research data.
  
• Understand reasons behind dataset licensing.
• Be aware of trusted repositories.
  
• Be aware of risks to the longevity of your digital data.
• Be familiar with basic concepts of digital preservation.
• Be aware of some of the drivers for data sharing requirements, including scientific fraud.
